Welcome to the great outdoors, today better known as forest bathing. Japanese practice immersing oneself into nature to relax thru audio, visual and sensory engagement. People disconnect from technology and focus on the sights, sounds, smells, and textures of a forest environment to lower stress, improve mood, and boost the immune system by inhaling beneficial tree compounds called phytoncides.
The practice involves slow, deliberate movement and heightened awareness of the present moment, often for about two hours, but even short periods can be beneficial.
